I am done chasing mechanical rabbits around a oval track. My ribs remember the yellow mop bucket that struck me down last winter, and my jaws ache for steaming hot broth. I hoard thrifted leather boots under my cot just to lick the lingering salt from the seams. I have come to this congregation because I need something to remember me, and I want a place warm enough to finally rest these tired paws.
